Multi-Purpose Hole Saw · 3 in · Carbide-Tipped for Wood with Nails and Abrasive Materials · IDEAL 36-354
What this product is for
This 3 in (76 mm) TRI-Bore™ multi-purpose hole saw is used to cut larger openings in mixed and abrasive materials that can wear out standard bi-metal hole saws faster. It is suited to electrical, maintenance and retrofit work where the cut may pass through wood with nails, cement board, composite enclosures or ceiling tile.
Use for
Use for cutting 3 in (76 mm) openings in wood with embedded nails, cement board, composite electrical enclosures, ceiling tile and similar abrasive materials. IDEAL literature also lists this size as suitable for typical 2 in pipe with couplings applications, where the required opening matches the fitting or penetration detail.
Avoid for
Avoid choosing this hole saw when a standard bi-metal saw is sufficient for clean wood-only or light sheet-metal-only work, or when you need a finished hole size not matched to 3 in (76 mm). Do not assume arbor and pilot are included; this deep-cup design requires the correct longer pilot arrangement.
Best for
Best for electricians and contractors who need one carbide-tipped hole saw for tougher site conditions and mixed materials. It is a practical choice for service vans, retrofit crews and panel or enclosure modification work where material conditions are not always predictable.
Installed in
Typically used on site in electrical rooms, commercial interiors, service upgrades, retrofit projects, composite or non-metallic enclosures, and wall or ceiling assemblies where larger penetrations are needed.
Why this product exists
TRI-Bore™ hole saws are designed to bridge the gap between standard wood-cutting and abrasive-material cutting. The carbide-tipped design is intended to cut faster than self-feed bits in wood and faster than carbide grit in abrasive materials, while the deep angled gullets help with plug removal.
Compared with similar products
Compared with a bi-metal hole saw, this model is better suited to abrasive materials and wood with nails. Compared with carbide-grit styles, it is intended to cut faster in many common trade materials. As a rule of thumb, choose carbide-tipped multi-purpose hole saws when the material mix is uncertain or likely to include fasteners or abrasive board products. Actual cutting speed and life depend on drill power, feed pressure, material thickness and site conditions.
