Determining Material Costs

Begin by calculating the purchase costs of everything you need to complete the installation. This includes wire, fixtures, transformers, controllers, conduits, splices, and any other materials.

Typically, you can use the plan or sketch of fixture locations to gather accurate and complete information.

  1. Count Each Component:

    • Note the part number, finish, or other specifications for each component.
    • Ensure accuracy in noting the correct model numbers, costs, and accessories to avoid ordering the wrong product or incorrectly capturing costs.
  2. Measure Wire Runs:

    • Measure the length of wire runs by cable size, including vertical distances to reach lights in trees or gutters.
    • Measure the lengths of all necessary conduits and sleeves.
  3. Review Notes and Specifications:

    • Read the notes and specifications for details on the controls and other components to be furnished.
    • Capture the costs of these components.
  4. Calculate Total Material Cost:

    • Multiply the number of components by the cost from your supplier to arrive at a summary of your total material cost.

By following these steps, you can ensure accurate and complete material costing for your landscape lighting project.
