This 4 in x 4 in x 2-1/8 in deep (102 x 102 x 54 mm) steel square box is used for junctions, device support and conductor splicing where more wiring space is needed than a shallow box provides. The 30 cu in capacity helps when multiple conductors or pass-through runs are present.
Use for ceiling or wall junction points, conduit runs, armoured cable transitions where approved fittings are used, and installations requiring 1/2 in and 3/4 in trade size knockouts. Commonly used in commercial, institutional and residential rough-in where a 4 in square box and cover combination is specified.
Avoid where a weatherproof box, non-metallic box, masonry box or gangable device box is required. Do not assume box fill suitability without checking conductor count, device allowance, internal clamps or fittings, and applicable Canadian Electrical Code requirements.
Best for electricians needing a standard deep 1900-style square box with added wiring space, concentric knockouts and steel construction. A practical choice when several branch circuit conductors are being split in two or more directions.
Typically installed in commercial tenant fit-outs, service spaces, utility rooms, suspended ceilings, wall cavities and general branch circuit junction locations. Often paired with raised covers, mud rings or blank covers depending on the device or junction application.
This box provides a standard 4 in square footprint with deeper capacity for cleaner splices and easier conductor management than shallow boxes. As typical guidance, deeper square boxes are commonly chosen when conductor count increases or when future access and cover options matter. Actual box fill depends on conductor size, fittings, devices and local code.
Compared with a shallow 4 in square box, this 2-1/8 in deep version gives more internal volume for splices and pass-through conductors. Compared with non-metallic boxes, it is better suited to many commercial steel-box rough-in practices and conduit-based installations. If cable clamps are specifically required in the box, confirm the exact box variant before ordering.
