        What this product is for

This 6-5/8 in (168 mm) carbide-tipped hole saw is designed for electricians and contractors who need a large-diameter opening in abrasive or mixed materials. IDEAL's Tri-Bore design is intended for wood with nails, cement board, composite enclosures, ceiling tile and similar jobsite materials.

        Use for

Use for cutting larger openings for fixture rough-ins, access points, composite or enclosure penetrations, and similar electrical installation work where a standard bi-metal hole saw may wear quickly. The manufacturer sell sheet also lists this size for Juno and Progress fixture applications.

        Avoid for

Avoid using it as a general-purpose metal hole saw for thicker steel or applications outside the listed material range. Do not assume arbor and pilot bits are universal; this deep-cup Tri-Bore style requires compatible IDEAL arbors and a longer pilot bit.

        Best for

Best for electricians, maintenance teams and contractors cutting large holes in abrasive materials where carbide teeth and deep gullets help with plug removal and service life.

        Installed in

Typically used on commercial and residential electrical rough-in work, retrofit fixture openings, composite boxes or enclosures, and selected underground utility vault modifications where the material suits a carbide-tipped hole saw.

        Why this product exists

This model fills the need for a large-diameter hole saw that handles tougher, more abrasive materials than many standard bi-metal saws. Deep gullets support easier plug removal, and the carbide-tipped cutting edge is intended for longer life in demanding materials.

        Compared with similar products

Compared with a standard bi-metal hole saw, this Tri-Bore model is better suited to abrasive materials and wood with embedded nails. Compared with self-feeding bits, IDEAL states Tri-Bore hole saws are faster in wood. As typical buying guidance, carbide-tipped hole saws are commonly chosen when material mix and tooth wear are the main concern. Actual cutting speed and life depend on drill speed, pressure, material thickness and site conditions.
