        What this product is for

The IDEAL Industries 36-301 TKO hole cutter is a 7/8 in (22 mm) carbide-tipped cutter for making clean, round holes in sheet metal, stainless steel, electrical panels, boxes, and enclosures. It is supplied as an arboured cutter with pilot drill for controlled starts in metal.

        Use for

        • Electrical panels and cabinets
        • Junction boxes and pull boxes
        • Sheet steel and stainless steel
        • Hole making for fittings that require a 7/8 in (22 mm) opening
        • Service and retrofit work where a cleaner cut is preferred over a standard bi-metal hole saw

        Avoid for

        • Masonry, concrete, or tile
        • Wood-only applications where a standard wood-boring hole saw is more suitable
        • Use on high-RPM drilling setups outside the manufacturer guidance
        • Applications where the required hole size is larger or smaller than 7/8 in (22 mm)

        Best for

Best for electricians and maintenance trades cutting repeat holes in metal boxes and enclosures, especially where reduced burrs and a more controlled cut are important. A typical trade use for a 7/8 in cutter is preparing openings for 1/2 in conduit fittings and knockout-style connections, but confirm the exact fitting requirement before cutting.

        Installed in

Used on installed or shop-prepped electrical equipment including panelboards, wireways, cabinets, boxes, and fabricated metal enclosures in residential, commercial, and industrial work.

        Why this product exists

Carbide-tipped hole cutters are chosen when electricians need faster starts, cleaner holes, and longer life in metal than a typical general-purpose hole saw. The included pilot drill helps reduce walking at startup, which is useful on painted or smooth metal surfaces.

        Compared with similar products

Compared with a standard bi-metal hole saw, this TKO cutter is typically selected for cleaner cuts in metal and stainless steel and for longer cutter life in repetitive electrical work. Compared with knockout punches, it is better suited where drill-based hole making is more practical and access for a punch set is limited. As a rule of thumb, use cutting oil and lower drill speed in harder metals to help cutter life and cut quality; actual performance depends on material, RPM, feed pressure, and setup.
